Spring Garden Florals for a Nonantum Resort Wedding

I was so honored to be the florist for this Styled Shoot at the Nonantum Resort! Back in December, my photographer friend Brittany from Two Adventurous Souls sent me a picture of a holiday-themed evergreen dress she saw at a party on a mannequin. She asked me if I could make a floral dress that a model could wear. I loved the idea and am always up for a challenge, so I said yes! Brittany was thrilled and ran with the idea! When she gets an idea in her head..oh boy! You better look out!

Whimsical Styled Shoot at the Nonantum Resort

Brittany got to work planning a spring-styled shoot based solely on the dress I was making! She booked the venue, secured the vendor team, purchased accessories, designed the invitation suite, and hired the models. The goal was to be as creative as possible! The Nonantum Resort has a beautiful garden room that is the perfect backdrop. It is so bright and light and truly allowed the colors to pop.

I really love the unique and special touches Brittany thought about for the “props.” Both of the engagement rings are made from moonstone. One structured like a traditional ring and one raw. The invitations and menus are handmade paper embedded with wildflower seeds (which I loved to see!!). Lisa from Cakes For All Seasons did some of her most beautiful work yet! She designed a gorgeous cake decorated with locally grown flowers, mini macarons, and dried rhubarb curls! So inventive! Every detail was perfect and so creative!

Unique Floral Design for a Maine Wedding

We really wanted to show a more diverse couple, and Jayra and Lauren were perfect! When planning for editorials, I like to try and design outside of my comfort zone and create things my couple might not normally ask for. Instead of making a regular bouquet, I made some wearable pieces. For Lauren, I made a floral ear cuff. It looks a little like a hairpiece, but it was actually placed on her ear! An earpiece works with any hairstyle (long or short) and it is something you never see at traditional weddings! For Jaya, I made a floral “tattoo” that was attached directly to her skin! It could be put anywhere, but we added it to her arm.  Samantha Howard did an amazing job with hair and makeup to really showcase the pieces.

Bright Spring Colors for Kennebunkport Wedding

I made the structure for the floral dress ahead of time because I knew it would be too difficult for a model to put on when it was fully flowered and transported to the Nonantum Resort. Therefore, I designed the majority of it on-site while Jayra was wearing it! Not only is she beautiful, but also sweet, patient, and entirely professional while I secured each flower.

I created each of the table pieces with locally grown flowers. Typically prefer an abundance of flowers on the tables, so I really stepped out of my comfort zone again! Instead of arrangements, I went for a more modern and minimalist style with single stems. I find it’s important to try new styles and constantly be learning new things! I am always looking to expand my skill set and be ready for anything.
