A few years ago when I lived in Boston, Marina became my roommate for a while. She is a journalist who is active in social justice, human rights, and environmental issues. Though we didn’t live together for very long, we became friends based on our similar interests. So even after I had moved to Maine, when she asked me if I would do the flowers for her small, socially-distanced wedding to Bennett, I was thrilled.
Marina told me they wanted flowers that would represent their “vegan and crunchy” lifestyle, and I loved that idea. I incorporated fruit, vegetables, and herbs in their bouquet and boutonniere, and used only locally grown, sustainable flowers.
2020 was a very strange time for weddings, and although most of mine were cancelled or rescheduled it was great to have these few special projects. Marina and Bennett had a small vegan gathering at their home and their ceremony in front of a fountain was streamed live on Facebook for their friends.
They still got to take a bunch of really fun photos around Boston, which I’m sure they will always treasure.
And Marina wrote an article for The New York Times about The Year of the Wedding After-Parties!
